MOTOMORPHOSIS 2026: MSCHF Bends Lexus Cars Into Sculptures

Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF has pushed two electrified Lexus vehicles through radical transformations that mimic the elastic logic of digital screens. Commissioned by Lexus, the project titled MOTOMORPHOSIS takes familiar production car bodies and warps them into surreal, full-scale sculptures where sheet metal behaves much like soft modeling clay.
The exhibition opens at Chelsea Industrial in New York from September 24th through 26th, 2026, during Armory Week. By displaying the distorted sculptures right beside their production counterparts, the installation highlights how a vehicle's core identity relies heavily on proportion and forward momentum.

The first sculpture, named Circle Car, uses the Lexus RZ450e as its base. MSCHF bends the entire length of the vehicle until the front nose meets the rear bumper, forming a continuous loop where the car appears caught in an endless circuit around its own circumference while retaining its outer wheels and curved cabin.
The second piece, Twisted Car, applies a dramatic longitudinal twist to the Lexus RX450h+ SUV. The body rotates around an invisible central axis, dragging surface lines and recognizable features along with it as if the entire vehicle was frozen mid-motion between two opposing rotational forces.
By describing these creations as Form Cars, MSCHF introduces a provocative counterpoint to traditional automotive concept cars. While standard production vehicles are engineered to move through physical space, these sculptures internalize that movement directly into their physical geometry, eliminating the need to travel anywhere at all.
Both the Lexus RZ450e and Lexus RX450h+ production models will stand side-by-side with their distorted sculptural doubles during the three-day exhibition at Chelsea Industrial, offering visitors a striking exploration of form, animation physics, and automotive design.
