Donald Trump has made headlines by introducing a brand-new term for artificial intelligence, dubbing it "Super Intelligence (SI)" during a sweeping address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday. Declaring the arrival of a new world of SI, the move was swiftly adopted by several figures within the president's inner circle.

Prior to the announcement, Trump invited followers on his Truth Social platform to vote on various potential alternative names for AI, including superior intelligence, extreme intelligence, and supreme intelligence. Following a series of polls, super intelligence emerged as the winning choice. This renaming initiative mirrors Trump's previous efforts to alter geographical names, such as Lake Ontario and the Gulf of Mexico, across US maps and federal communications.

However, technology experts told the BBC that the new terminology is unlikely to gain traction across the industry because super intelligence carries a very specific meaning within the tech community. Dr. Simon Coghlan, a digital ethics lecturer from The University of Melbourne, pointed out that the rebranding is "misleading," noting that a true superintelligent system typically refers to self-improving technology that experts would regard as the most consequential innovation ever created.

Despite the skepticism from researchers, individuals close to the administration quickly embraced the label. US Chief Technology Officer Ethan Klein took to social media to proclaim that the Super Intelligence President has spoken and that the United States will maintain its global leadership in SI.
