During Wednesday's Made On YouTube event on September 23, 2026, YouTube revealed a suite of creator tools highlighted by a brand-new conversational editing feature designed to refine both short-form and long-form footage using natural language commands.
Speaking on stage during the event, YouTuber Happy Kelli highlighted the time-consuming nature of post-production by pointing out that a one-hour shoot can easily demand ten hours or more in the editing room, prompting the need to accelerate the workflow without losing creative oversight.

The feature operates through a chat interface where creators provide direct instructions to the AI on how to assemble their video. In Happy Kelli's demonstration, she utilized footage of herself dancing in multiple outfits and instructed the artificial intelligence to pick the optimal take for each costume before adding matching background music and transitions.
Conversational video editing represents a major paradigm shift in content creation, moving away from complex timeline-based software toward intuitive natural language commands. While this drastically reduces production time, it also sparks a broader industry debate regarding whether automated tools might homogenize creator styles or if human editors will retain their unique artistic signatures.
Beyond selecting takes and syncing audio, the tool is equipped to execute several other editing tasks such as generating text overlays, trimming out awkward pauses in dialogue, and proactively delivering suggestions based on the context of the ongoing conversation.
While many creators will undoubtedly welcome the time savings and relief from the tedious aspects of video production, others who pride on distinct individual editing styles may feel hesitant to relinquish creative control to an automated system.
