Former England striker Andy Carroll has opened up about a traumatic experience in his new autobiography titled 'Owning it', revealing that he was sexually assaulted by a man back in 2021. The 37-year-old was automatically granted legal anonymity as a victim of a sexual offence following the ordeal.
The incident took place inside Carroll's home during his second stint with his hometown club, Newcastle United. A friend of his then-partner, who was away from home at the time, had visited the house to watch a boxing match and was scheduled to stay overnight.
According to Carroll, the assault occurred while he was asleep. Upon realizing what had happened, he threw the man out of the property and knocked him unconscious as the perpetrator attempted to force his way back inside.
"I was sexually assaulted, there I said it. Scary to even think about and only a few people knew about it before now."

The unnamed attacker was subsequently convicted of sexual offences and placed on the sex offender register. Carroll testified during the court proceedings, describing the legal process as humiliating, embarrassing, and absolutely horrendous.
