Amflow TL Carbon Review: Can This eSUV Handle City and Trail?

Have you ever wanted an electric bike that easily transitions from urban asphalt to gravel and dirt adventures? That is the promise of the "electric SUV" (eSUV) subclass, featuring wide all-terrain tires, front and rear suspension, and practical accessories like fenders and racks.

The Verge deputy editor Thomas Ricker put the new TL Carbon e-bike from Amflow—the DJI offshoot known for upending the mountain-bike industry with its powerful Avinox motors—to the test. Following a month of riding in the heart of Amsterdam and a three-day bikepacking trip along coastal bicycle superhighways and forest single-tracks, he confirmed that compromises exist. Yet, for 3,499 euros or 3,899 dollars, riders get a crossover e-bike capable of handling grocery runs during weekdays and conquering trails on weekends.

The 170-kilometer testing adventure stretched from Amsterdam to the island of Texel at the northern tip of the Netherlands, covering 70 percent asphalt, 20 percent gravel and dirt, and 10 percent rugged mountain bike single-tracks. Despite carrying a 19.2kg bike, an 87kg rider, and roughly 20kg of gear, Amflow's compact mid-drive Avinox M2 motor with its 125Nm of torque and 1,100W peak output effortlessly flattened long technical hills.
