Varawut: Industrial Estate Flooding Not Impacting Economy

On September 28, 2026, at Government House, Industry Minister Varawut Silpa-archa addressed the flooding situation inside several industrial estates, revealing that floodwaters in public areas within the estates currently range from approximately 20 centimeters to nearly 50 centimeters deep.

The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) along with relevant agencies has mobilized large water pumps to drain water out of the affected zones as quickly as possible. Special focus is being placed on Lat Krabang Industrial Estate and Bang Chan Industrial Estate, taking advantage of the falling sea tide rather than high sea levels to maximize drainage efficiency.

Mr. Varawut explained that the current situation is entirely different from the major flooding crisis back in 2011, when massive runoff flowed down from the northern region. Ever since 2011, every industrial estate has successfully constructed perimeter flood levees surrounding their properties.

The cause of the flooding over the past 4 to 5 days stems from a low-pressure cell lingering over Bangkok without moving away, which caused heavy accumulated rainfall and water retention directly inside the industrial zones.

"From initial reports, no economic damage or critical harm has occurred to major parts of the industrial plants. Although water has overflowed into some factory areas, it has not reached critical points."

The Industry Minister concluded by noting that the governor of the IEAT has prepared sandbags and preventive measures for each individual factory site, and further updates will be provided if any damage arises.
