The British government believes that Iran played a role in the security incident at the Royal Air Force Fairford base over the weekend, according to Prime Minister Andy Burnham. Speaking to the BBC, he noted that there are strong indications pointing toward Iranian involvement in the events that led to the arrest and subsequent bail of five men.
While Tehran has strongly rejected any connection to the incident, Burnham stated that further details would be shared in due course. He emphasized that the situation remains an ongoing, complex, and serious police investigation, with authorities collaborating closely with counterparts in the United States.

The arrests took place in the early hours of Sunday morning after local police were alerted to three suspicious vehicles located in Whelford, a village situated directly east of the military installation. All five suspects are British nationals aged between 23 and 25, with four residing in Westminster and one in Camden. Police confirmed that searches of their respective homes have now been concluded.
Additional details revealed that one of the five detained men actually dialed the 999 emergency number himself prior to the group's arrest. During subsequent searches of the vans found near the airfield, police recovered a quantity of gasoline, though no explosive devices were discovered.

RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire has served as a forward operating location for the US Air Force for decades. Recent months saw American bombers launching missions toward the Middle East from the facility after the UK approved US requests for defensive strikes against Iranian targets. In July, Tehran issued a stern warning stating that any base used for aggression against Iranian territory would be considered a legitimate military target.
