- Beehiiv has increased monthly subscription prices by at least $10 for creators.
- The platform renamed its Scale plan to Lite and Max plan to Pro.
- Creators with fewer than 2,500 subscribers can still use the platform for free.
- CEO Tyler Denk stated the price hike supports continued platform investment.
The creator economy is reacting to significant pricing updates from Beehiiv, a popular newsletter and website publishing platform. The company has raised its subscription fees by at least $10 per month, a move leadership says will fund ongoing platform development. While many creators initially migrated to Beehiiv from Substack to bypass a 10 percent revenue cut, this latest fee adjustment has prompted users to re-evaluate their publishing costs.
The updated pricing structure involves specific adjustments across multiple subscription tiers:
- The mid-range Scale plan has been renamed Lite, charging $139 per month instead of $109 for creators with up to 10,000 subscribers.
- The Pro plan, previously called Max, now costs $239 per month for up to 10,000 subscribers, up from the previous $219 monthly rate.
- Creators maintaining fewer than 2,500 subscribers retain free access to the platform.

Co-founder and CEO Tyler Denk noted in an announcement post that this represents only the second time pricing has changed across the platform's nearly five-year history, pointing to expanded platform capabilities. However, the update has generated pushback from several prominent creators across social media networks.
Freelance journalist Tim Stevens shared frustrations on Bluesky, writing that sponsor choices and ad rates have declined since switching to Beehiiv earlier this year, making a 25 percent fee hike a difficult pill to swallow. Matt Lombardo, who migrated his NFL news site Between the Hashmarks to the platform, similarly expressed frustration over rising costs while key features like video podcasts and native podcast ads remain unavailable.
"As these prices increase, I think it’s becoming increasingly clear that if you have under 10K subscribers and rely on Beehiiv to do the majority of your rev-gen, and ESPECIALLY if you’re outside the United States, the answer is going to be No. It isn’t worth it."

This price adjustment highlights the ongoing economic balancing act for creator economy software platforms. As companies invest heavily in expanded built-in tools like community features and website personalization, they risk alienating smaller publishers or international creators who rely on tighter profit margins and lower startup costs.
