- Manager Sebastien Pocognoli introduced a fresh 3-4-1-2 tactical system
Following a disappointing World Cup campaign in the USA where the national team struggled offensively and managed only a single goal from John McGinn, a new era has officially begun under the guidance of newly appointed manager Sebastien Pocognoli.
During Steve Clarke's tenure, Kieron Bowie was often overlooked despite scoring goals for Hellas Verona in Serie A while facing relegation. After the disappointment of missing out on the previous squad, Bowie spent his break relaxing at home and taking a short golf trip to Portugal before earning his breakthrough under the Belgian coach.

Bowie bounced back from a frustrating 13-minute cameo that ended in a red card against Switzerland by shining in the 2-0 Nations League victory over North Macedonia in Skopje, where he started upfront alongside Oli McBurnie in an aggressive 3-4-1-2 formation.
His statistical output throughout the match was exceptional, leading the team with seven total shots, four shots on target, five shots inside the box, and a game-high 11 touches inside the opponent's penalty area.
"You play all your life to represent a country and to score a goal is just an unbelievable feeling."

The 24-year-old forward noted that Pocognoli's preferred style of play perfectly suits his physical attributes, particularly running in behind defences and using his strength to occupy opposing centre-backs, marking a significant milestone after his early days at Raith Rovers and Hibernian.
Sebastien Pocognoli's appointment represents a tactical shift for Scotland towards a more proactive attacking mindset. Bowie's stint in Serie A with Hellas Verona has clearly hardened him against experienced defenders, allowing him to transition smoothly into a leading role for the national team at age 24.
Bowie added that while Scottish fans might still remember him from his time at Hibernian, his move to Italian football has exposed him to a higher standard of competition against seasoned professionals, ultimately elevating his overall game.
