The Royal Thai Army has stepped forward to clarify reports regarding the movement of shipping containers out of Thai troop deployment lines around the Chong Khala Khamum area in Surin province, affirming that the situation on the ground remains secure and well-managed.
On October 5, 2026, at the Royal Thai Army Headquarters, Colonel Richa Suksuwanont, Deputy Spokesperson for the Army, addressed the issue after verifying details with the Suranaree Task Force. He confirmed that the area lies strictly within Thailand's deployment lines, as stipulated in the joint statement from the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting on December 27, 2025, with Thai forces continuously monitoring the sector.

Colonel Richa explained that military units in the area initially placed the shipping containers as a temporary defensive barrier to ensure security along the deployment line while tactical measures were being upgraded to match the local terrain and enhance overall defense efficiency.
Deploying shipping containers as temporary barricades is a common tactical practice in border regions to provide immediate protection for personnel while permanent fortifications are being planned or constructed. Their mobility allows forces to adapt quickly to evolving security requirements.
At present, the military has successfully completed comprehensive upgrades to the security measures protecting the Chong Khala Khamum sector. With permanent defenses now fully established, the temporary containers are no longer required and have been relocated for alternative military use in other areas.
