- AIS launches commercial 5G-ADVANCED services first in Southeast Asia
- Upload speeds increase by 2x and download speeds by 1.5x via spectrum aggregation
- Thai user upload volumes surge by 25x driven by live commerce and Generative AI
- Existing 5G subscribers can access 5G-ADVANCED immediately at no extra cost
AI is rapidly becoming the core engine driving the global economy, yet countries aiming to fully unlock its potential require robust connectivity infrastructure capable of supporting data-intensive operations across every sector in real time.
Techsauce recently spoke in an exclusive interview with Kitti Ngampettirat, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of AIS, and Wasit Wattanapศัพท์, Head of Nationwide Operations and Technical Support, regarding technological directions for the next decade. Kitti pointed out that the competition will hinge on digital infrastructure readiness in turning AI concepts into tangible economic and societal value.

To support this growth, AIS has rolled out 5G-ADVANCED services, laying the groundwork for Thailand to become the ASEAN AI Connectivity Hub. The core mechanism involves combining multiple frequency bands through Carrier Aggregation, creating a massive digital highway that allows data to flow seamlessly and rapidly.
AIS's technical advantage stems from holding a comprehensive spectrum portfolio, including the 700 MHz band for long-range coverage and building penetration, the 2100 MHz band for network balance, and the 2600 MHz band for high-capacity high-speed data transmission. Combining FDD and TDD spectrums through automated management yields a significant boost in network performance.
"AI acts like the brain that analyzes information, but translating AI into practical utility requires a robust infrastructure that functions like a nervous system connecting and transmitting commands to every part."
Kitti Ngampettirat
The deployment of 5G-ADVANCED in Thailand aligns closely with incoming data center investments from global tech giants. Establishing massive uplink capabilities is vital for supporting upcoming AI agents, autonomous vehicles, and industrial automation systems across the region.
Furthermore, actual usage data reveals that Thai upload volumes have surged 25 times while downloads grew 10 times, fueled by live commerce, content creation, and cloud-based Generative AI workflows. AIS has ensured readiness across Network Ready (95% population coverage), Device Ready, and Usage Ready with over 19.7 million 5G subscribers, allowing current users to access 5G-ADVANCED immediately without any additional fees.
