- BougeRV DuneRover features dual brushless motors delivering up to 800W total output and 33Nm torque.
- It hauls over 200 pounds of gear, conquering 10 percent inclines and soft beach sand with ease.
- The product is currently on Kickstarter with production units slated to ship in February 2027.
- Early-bird pricing is set at $467, down from the eventual $899 retail list price.
The Verge deputy editor Thomas Ricker recently shared his hands-on impressions of the BougeRV DuneRover, a motorized utility wagon featuring animated lighting. Initially expecting to write a critical review of a humorous novelty, Ricker found the device remarkably capable of handling steep hills and soft sand thanks to torque strong enough to haul over 200 pounds of gear.
Equipped with two brushless geared motors producing up to 400W of output and 33Nm of torque each, the wagon activates via a trigger embedded in the handle. Users simply press naturally while pulling, and the cart accelerates to match their walking pace, coming to an immediate stop when the trigger is released, even on inclines.

During testing on a 10 percent grade with a 200-plus pound load, the motor assistance drastically reduced the physical effort required. However, repeatedly stopping and starting on slopes occasionally caused the motors to exhibit a jerky motion before resetting. When walking downhill, the controller effectively regulated acceleration to match the operator's pace.
Integrating electric motors and torque regulation into traditional utility wagons illustrates the ongoing consumerization and electrification of manual outdoor equipment. However, backing hardware on crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter carries inherent manufacturing and delivery risks, making risk assessment essential for early adopters.
Despite a few quirks—such as default rear LED light bars that require manual disabling via the app upon every restart and an included wireless remote control—the DuneRover offers genuine utility. Production units are scheduled to ship in February 2027, with early-bird pricing available at $467 compared to the planned $899 retail price.
