Spotify announced on Wednesday that it is expanding its audiobook access to over 180 markets globally, spanning regions across Europe, the Americas, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. The rollout is rolling out progressively starting today and continuing over the coming months. This major expansion allows more than 750 million users to access audiobooks, positioning Spotify to compete more aggressively against music streaming services and standalone audiobook apps such as Audible.
Prior to this expansion, Spotify's audiobook offerings were restricted primarily to English-speaking markets including the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, alongside Germany.

The audio streaming platform stated that it now features more than 350,000 titles for its newly launched markets and has expanded its collection to support over 120 languages. With its official launch in Spain, users in the country gain immediate access to more than 45,000 titles in Spanish. To fuel this content growth, Spotify is partnering with over 300 publishers worldwide, including prominent names like Planeta and Mondadori.
Users subscribed to a Premium plan in eligible countries—such as Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Chile, Norway, and Peru—can listen to 12 hours of audiobooks per month. Alternatively, users worldwide can purchase an Audiobook+ standalone subscription to unlock titles with a 15-hour monthly allowance, or buy individual titles directly on an a la carte basis.
Spotify's aggressive global push into audiobooks highlights its strategic evolution into a comprehensive audio super-app. By localizing content through partnerships with regional publishers and supporting over 120 languages, the company is successfully overcoming historical licensing and linguistic barriers, turning its massive music user base into a funnel for spoken-word audio consumption.
In November, Spotify will also introduce an Audiobook+ add-on tailored for student subscription plans in select regions. The company reported that since launching last year, Audiobook+ has accumulated over 1 million subscribers and generated more than $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR).
Furthermore, the company highlighted the success of its 'Page Match' feature launched in February, which lets users scan a physical book page to jump directly to the corresponding audiobook timestamp. The feature currently attracts 1 million monthly active users, complementing broader growth metrics showing a 40% year-over-year increase in monthly audiobook listeners and a 30% rise in total listening hours.
