While many users are still getting accustomed to iOS 27 on their iPhones, and perhaps wondering why minor patches like iOS 27.0.1 exist to address iPhone 18 Pro glitches, Apple is already preparing its next major software release: iOS 27.2. While this update isn't as massive of an overhaul as iOS 27 itself, it introduces impactful changes, particularly for users who rely heavily on the Health application.
The update is currently in the beta testing phase, allowing users to enroll their devices and test out the new features early. However, because beta software carries inherent risks, users should always back up their essential data before proceeding with the installation.

The standout feature of iOS 27.2 is the Health app's biggest revamp in years. Fitness enthusiasts will now be able to view their Fitness rings directly inside the Health app rather than switching to the separate Fitness app. It also introduces a new Longevity tab providing insights into long-term health metrics like mental wellbeing, nutrition, daily movement, heart health, metabolic health, sleep, and hearing health, alongside new assessments including a Health Age feature.
The substantial redesign of the Health app in iOS 27.2 highlights Apple's strategic push toward proactive, preventive healthcare centered around the iPhone. By leveraging on-device intelligence and camera tracking for physical assessments, Apple makes complex wellness insights more accessible. At the same time, gathering such extensive personal health data elevates the importance of robust data privacy and security measures.
Another major enhancement involves Call Context, powered by Apple Intelligence. When users are on a phone call, the system checks if the number corresponds to a business with relevant device data, such as retrieving an airline flight number from an email itinerary. In iOS 27.2, Call Context expands to include anniversary alerts, displaying reminders on-screen if users happen to forget a saved occasion while calling someone.

Additionally, iOS 27.2 incorporates a previously announced FaceTime API that supports adding a human interpreter to video calls to improve accessibility. Apple TV app profiles are also making their way to iOS and iPadOS 27.2, allowing multiple household members sharing a single device, such as an iPad, to personalize their viewing experience.
Furthermore, Apple is expanding Siri AI language availability beyond English to include French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. The update also brings minor aesthetic tweaks, such as changing red accent buttons in the Music app to black, resizing AM and PM indicators in the Clock app, renaming Up Next to New Episodes in Podcasts, and allowing users to exclude multiple apps from Siri simultaneously.
