- Google Health app introduced a new setting in August 2026 to disable unprompted AI Insights.
- Users can turn off annoying coach messages while keeping other AI features like chat logging active.
- The entire Google Health Coach feature can also be fully disabled through the app settings.
Ever since the Fitbit app transitioned into the Google Health app, its AI-powered features have become a constant presence for Premium users, particularly the Health Coach feature. This centerpiece tool frequently floods the main screen and notifications with paragraphs of text multiple times a day, offering sleep summaries, workout congratulations, and daily fitness suggestions.
While Google's development team has worked to make these insights more readable since launch, users are not always in the mood for unsolicited pep talks. Fortunately, an August 2026 feature update quietly introduced settings that allow users to manage these interruptions, offering two distinct ways to quiet down the AI assistant.
The first method stops the repetitive "insights" while keeping the underlying AI functional. To turn off these specific unprompted messages, follow these steps:
- Tap on your profile picture in the Google Health app.
- Navigate to Google Health Settings.
- Select Coaching.
- Choose No Coach Insights.
Allowing users to selectively disable AI insights without shutting down the entire coaching framework demonstrates a smart UX pivot by Google. Balancing proactive health telemetry with user annoyance is a key challenge for fitness tech platforms, as excessive notifications often lead to app fatigue.
Once this setting is enabled, the intrusive update notifications will cease entirely. However, users can still manually tap Ask Coach in the bottom right corner of the screen whenever they want to check on their daily progress. Other AI-powered functions, such as logging meals and workouts through the chat interface, will continue to operate normally.

For those who are completely tired of the Google Health Coach ecosystem, the August update also made it much simpler to disable the entire feature. By navigating to your profile picture, selecting Google Health Settings, going to Coaching, and tapping Turn off Google Health Coach, you can shut down the assistant completely.
As the app's confirmation screen explains, turning this off stops tailored guidance, fitness plans, and proactive health trend summaries. You will no longer be able to chat with the coach to log your progress or ask questions, though you can easily toggle the feature back on at any time.
