A Member of Parliament from the People's Party has publicly disclosed critical information regarding an illegal operation smuggling hazardous electronic waste from foreign countries into Thailand. According to the disclosure, intelligence was received from a civic network indicating that a private logistics company was actively moving suspicious cargo units into a major economic zone.
Preliminary findings revealed that the shipment consists of a total of five containers currently being held within the premises of Laem Chabang Port in Chonburi province, a primary maritime trade gateway for the country. Instead of standard consumer goods as declared in the shipping documents, these containers are allegedly packed with large quantities of electronic waste and degraded electrical equipment.

This situation has raised serious concerns among civil society organizations and local residents, as e-waste is classified as hazardous material under international and domestic laws. Improper disposal or leakage of such toxic materials poses severe long-term risks to the local environment and public health.
The ongoing issue of illegal e-waste importation into Thailand remains a critical challenge, especially after developed nations diverted such shipments following China's ban on plastic and electronic waste imports. Swift intervention and cargo seizure by customs authorities serve as vital deterrents to prevent the country from becoming a dumping ground for global toxic waste.
In response to the discovery, the People's Party lawmaker has officially urged the Director-General of the Customs Department and relevant agencies to immediately impound all five containers for thorough forensic inspection. Furthermore, authorities have been pressed to trace the logistics company and masterminds behind the operation to ensure strict legal prosecution without exception.
