Citizen networks have gathered to stage an overnight protest and civil disobedience against the meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. The demonstrators described the gathering as a financial Olympics where governments and conglomerates dictate global economic directions at the expense of ordinary citizens, while demanding a structural overhaul of the capitalist system.
The network's statement outlined three major structural problems severely impacting society, which include:
- Neoliberal Crisis and the Blue Regime: Policies driven by the blue regime connecting capital groups, political factions, state machinery, and special powers to loot resources while using national security excuses to silence human rights defenders.
- Unfair Economic Growth: Success measured solely by GDP and the push for private capital mobilization

- Scars of Development: Lessons learned from projects like the Pak Mun Dam, Bang Lang Dam, potash mining, industrial pollution, and urban evictions, demonstrating that citizens do not owe the World Bank, but rather the World Bank and the state owe justice to the people.
In addition, the network issued seven urgent demands to resolve these issues: returning future-defining power to citizens, ensuring energy belongs to the people, stopping public debt creation for conglomerates, establishing universal welfare, forcing polluters to pay, halting harassment against citizens, and restructuring the blue economy through the 14th National Economic and Social Development Plan.
"We maintain civil disobedience, the street is the people's parliament, direct action through peaceful means is love put into action to make justice real, the future is not something the state and capital grant, but something the people must build!"
People's Network
The mobilization of civil society against international financial institutions highlights growing grassroots awareness regarding macro-level policy impacts. Neoliberal capitalism has long been criticized for prioritizing high economic growth figures while neglecting inequality. Connecting environmental issues, community rights, and welfare demonstrates a new dimension of people's politics challenging traditional development frameworks.
