- Replit has ended its partnership with Anthropic, according to CEO Amjad Masad at TechCrunch Disrupt.
- The decision was driven by multiple factors, including operational costs.
- Replit previously announced a partnership with OpenAI back in August.
- Insiders familiar with the situation have countered that the partnership remains in place.
Replit, the AI coding platform heavily favored by startup founders and software developers, is no longer collaborating with Anthropic. Amjad Masad, the company's CEO and co-founder, made the announcement on Thursday while speaking on stage at TechCrunch Disrupt on October 16, 2026.
Masad explained that the decision to cut ties stemmed from a variety of reasons, with cost being one of them. Although Replit announced a partnership deal with OpenAI in August, there had been no prior public indication that they were parting ways with Anthropic.
Shifting large language model (LLM) partnerships is a strategic pivot for developer platforms, heavily influenced by the soaring costs of AI inference and infrastructure. Replit's earlier tie-up with OpenAI in August, followed by this confirmed separation from Anthropic, highlights how platform builders must continually balance model performance with operational margins as enterprise demands scale.
Replit operates a cloud-based software development platform that allows users to build and deploy applications directly inside their web browsers. Through its prior collaboration with Anthropic, Replit utilized Claude AI models to power its platform infrastructure, a partnership previously credited with driving significant revenue growth for the company.
