Lawyer Phatrapong Suphaksorn has formally petitioned the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) following a series of suspicious security incidents during his travels. He reported that the situation began on October 12, 2026, while traveling to report to the Mueang Amnat Charoen Police Station, during which he noticed he was being followed and photographed while visiting the Provincial Police Region 3 headquarters.
On Thursday, October 15, 2026, he took his personal vehicle for an inspection in Nakhon Ratchasima province and discovered two GPS tracker units attached underneath the chassis. Consequently, he filed an official complaint with the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) on October 16, 2026, requesting an investigation into the origin of the tracking equipment and the individuals involved.

"I filed the complaint to hold accountable the registered owner of the SIM card, clearly identified as a resident of Tha Tum sub-district, Sangkha district, Surin province, who registered five SIM cards to determine if they are linked to mule accounts."

Phatrapong explained that he sought assistance from the NHRC because he feared for his life, noting that despite identifying a person who allegedly photographed him three times in a single day at a police station, no legal action had been taken. He urged the NHRC to dispatch officers to collaborate on the investigation with the local police and the CSD.
The incident involving tracking devices attached to an activist lawyer highlights the severe security risks faced by individuals investigating state agencies and powerful networks. Utilizing independent human rights bodies and witness protection frameworks is critical for safeguarding whistleblowers and ensuring accountability.
Furthermore, Phatrapong plans to approach the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to request witness protection, as he is a registered witness in multiple high-profile cases, including money laundering connected to senate election rigging and public land encroachment cases. He also called on the NHRC to investigate whether state power was misused to facilitate the surveillance.
