A horrifying series of shooting incidents unfolded on Friday in the southwestern suburbs of Paris, France, leaving one person dead and five others wounded, three of them critically. French authorities have launched an official investigation into the violence, treating the case as a potential act of terrorism.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez stated that multiple drive-by shootings took place consecutively, starting in Trappes and moving to nearby La Verrière. The violent rampage lasted for nearly 15 minutes, and a 12-year-old girl was among those struck by gunfire.
Ali Rabeh, the Mayor of Trappes, reported that an individual opened fire from a vehicle targeting unsuspecting people encountered along the morning route. The attacks hit several public spots including a petrol station, a medical centre, and a children's playground before the assailant drove toward La Verrière.

The mother of the injured 12-year-old girl told French broadcaster RTL that her daughter suffered eight gunshot wounds and required emergency surgery. She expressed profound distress over the attack on a child, noting that her daughter had been wearing a headscarf at the time.
Regarding the weapon used, a local police chief told BFMTV that the suspect operated an older-style semi-automatic firearm capable of firing in bursts. According to Le Parisien, the weapon dates all the way back to World War Two.

Police union and local media reports confirmed that the 39-year-old suspect was successfully detained in the nearby town of Coignières along the main N10 highway. The national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office (PNAT) noted that the suspect was known to local police but was not flagged by French intelligence services or listed as a high security threat.
This violent spree in the outskirts of Paris highlights the severe security challenges posed by random, mobile armed attacks across multiple public locations. By categorizing the investigation under terrorism and illegal possession of military-grade weapons, French authorities can leverage specialized counter-terrorism frameworks to thoroughly examine potential motives, ideological overtones, and any wider security implications.
