On August 16 at the Thai parliament building, list-MP and Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva presided over the closing ceremony of the DIP Program Batch 16 under the party's Blue Academy. He also delivered a special lecture on the topic of “Leadership,” praising the high potential, critical thinking, and dedication of all participating members.
Abhisit reflected that while leaders achieve success through various paths tailored to their personal goals, the core foundation lies in identifying one's strengths while continuously improving areas of weakness. Particularly crucial are communication and collaboration skills, which require immense patience and deep empathy toward the needs of others.

During the lecture, the Democrat leader categorized the essential characteristics of modern leadership urgently needed by society into three core points:
- Leaders must know the direction and provide a clear guiding light, establishing goals that inspire people to follow without relying solely on technical solutions.
- Leaders must uphold democratic spirit and values, respecting minorities, listening to dissenting voices, and maintaining political accountability.
- Leaders must be open-minded and cultivate empathy, striving to understand others' perspectives and continuously adapting to new technologies.
“Thai society lacks leaders who uphold democratic values. We have leaders who originate from a democratic system, but their hearts lean toward authoritarianism. Once they attain power, they often forget that democracy does not end the moment you win an election or secure a parliamentary majority.”
Abhisit further elaborated on the democratic aspect, emphasizing that a good leader cannot simply claim they did nothing illegal, but must shoulder political accountability and genuinely open space for public participation. He also invited ambitious young individuals to enter politics, viewing it as the most direct mechanism for structural legal reform, while advising them to learn from failures and bounce back resiliently.
Political incubation projects like the DIP program or Blue Academy serve as vital instruments for nurturing a new generation of political leaders and expanding party networks. The participation of veteran politicians like Abhisit and Korn in sharing firsthand lessons highlights the ongoing adaptation of political parties aiming to bridge the gap with younger demographics and multi-disciplinary professionals.
Meanwhile, list-MP and Democrat Party deputy leader Korn Chatikavanij shared his personal journey and experiences in politics. He noted that life has no fixed formula; at the participants' age, he never imagined entering politics, instead spending years building a successful career in financial business until reaching around 40 years old before deciding to enter public service.
Korn added that the youth volunteering for the DIP program demonstrate public-mindedness and hope for the country. Every career experience serves as a building block shaping well-rounded politicians, expressing hope that the DIP network will act as a collaborative bridge for future national development.
