- Police committee to summon DSI over People's Party MP nominee allegations
- MP linked to over 30 inactive firms holding 100 million baht in real estate
- Urges the People's Party to launch a transparent internal investigation
On August 19, 2026, Watcharaphong Kuwinitsuwan, Chairman of the House Committee on Police and MP for Saraburi from the Bhumjaithai Party, revealed plans regarding reports that the Department of Special Investigation is set to summon Somchat Techathavorncharoen, a People's Party MP for Phuket, over financial flows tied to suspicious corporate entities.
Initial findings indicate the MP is linked to holding shares and serving as an authorized director in more than 30 companies. These entities reportedly conduct no actual business operations but focus instead on holding land and condominium units valued at over 100 million baht in collaboration with foreign nationals.

Consequently, the police committee intends to invite the DSI Director-General and relevant officials to clarify the facts, determine whether such practices occurred, evaluate if the case qualifies for special investigation status, and check for violations of foreign nominee laws.
The issue of foreign nominees holding Thai real estate is a critical economic and national security concern. Thai laws impose strict limits on foreign land ownership, making nominee arrangements a major legal loophole that authorities are cracking down on to protect national economic sovereignty.
Watcharaphong noted that this crackdown aligns with the policy of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, who aims to eradicate nominee networks perceived as threats to national security, sovereignty, society, and the country's economy.
"Should come out to show sincerity and not remain silent in hopes of covering up wrongdoing, because if proven to be a nominee for foreigners, it sets a bad example."

Furthermore, the committee chairman urged the People's Party to investigate the matter seriously and transparently, rather than abandoning the suspect politician outside the party without taking responsibility.
