On August 24, 2026, at the Election Commission (EC) office, list MP Natcha Boonchaiinsawat of the People's Party lodged an official complaint regarding artificial intelligence-generated videos designed to slander the local administrative organization (PAO) mayoral election campaign in Nonthaburi province, where Decharat Sukkumnoed is running as the party's candidate.
Natcha revealed that the smear campaign involves continuous AI-generated clips intentionally crafted to maintain ambiguity to evade direct legal liabilities. The creators incorporated the logo of the dissolved Move Forward Party, along with the orange color theme and the number 4, which is the official ballot number assigned to Decharat.
The deployment of generative AI in political disinformation campaigns poses a significant regulatory challenge for election authorities worldwide.
