On September 2, 2026, at 10:50 AM at Government House, Police Lieutenant General Ruttapol Naowarat, Minister of Justice, addressed reporters regarding statements made by the chairman of the House Committee on Corruption Prevention and Suppression. The committee previously highlighted that two officials from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) were allegedly connected to Mr. Prawit Jaruratchakul, former mayor of Samrong Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Uthumphon Phisai District, Sisaket Province. Mr. Prawit is currently a fugitive under an arrest warrant issued by the Region 3 Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases over a local government civil service exam bribery scheme.
Minister Ruttapol revealed that preliminary reports identified two DSI personnel involved in the matter. Consequently, the Director-General of the DSI has established a fact-finding committee to pursue severe disciplinary actions against them. Further detailed clarifications regarding these internal procedures will be officially provided by the DSI.
Initiating severe disciplinary probes into local government examination bribery highlights a crucial crackdown on systemic corruption within Thai state agencies. When reporters questioned whether the DSI plans to expand its investigation beyond the two currently implicated officers, Minister Ruttapol clarified that the DSI will conduct supplementary investigative work, noting that the primary corruption case has been continuously handled by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) since its inception.
