US envoys arrive in Moscow with proposals to end Ukraine war

Top negotiators representing US President Donald Trump have arrived in Moscow, Russia, to hold high-level discussions with senior Russian officials as diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing war in Ukraine accelerate. A motorcade carrying Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner was spotted arriving at the Kremlin.
Russian state media reported that the two US envoys are scheduled to meet with President Vladimir Putin before heading to Kyiv, Ukraine, on Sunday for further talks. Trump told reporters that Witkoff and Kushner were carrying a specific proposal to end the war, although previous US and allied peace initiatives have faced setbacks.

During the delegation's visit, both Russia and Ukraine have agreed to halt strikes on each other's capital cities for a three-day period. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine would refrain from striking Moscow through Monday, expecting Russia to reciprocate regarding Kyiv. Russian state media similarly reported that Putin ordered a suspension of strikes on Kyiv.
"From now through the end of Saturday, as well as on Sunday and Monday, Ukraine is ready to refrain from strikes on Moscow, and we expect the Russians to do the same regarding Kyiv."
Witkoff and Kushner landed at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport, where they were greeted by Russian official Kirill Dmitriev. Flight tracking data indicated that a US government aircraft flew from Helsinki, Finland, after arriving from the United States earlier that day. US outlet Axios reported that the envoys would hold separate meetings with both Putin and Zelensky.
This upcoming visit marks the first time US envoys will hold talks inside Ukraine since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022, a period during which Ukrainian airspace has remained officially closed. While diplomatic momentum has picked up, fundamental disagreements regarding territorial claims and security guarantees continue to complicate peace prospects between the warring nations.
The Moscow visit follows a rare trip to the Russian capital by CIA Director John Ratcliffe a week prior. President Trump previously described that meeting as semi-routine, while ongoing aerial bombardments and supply shortages for interceptor missiles continue to strain Ukraine's defense capabilities.
