The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is advancing its high-value tourism strategy by spotlighting the Bangkok Art Biennale 2026 (BAB 2026) as a citywide contemporary art platform. The initiative aims to position the Thai capital as a global art destination, utilizing culture, creativity, and contemporary identity to inspire meaningful travel while supporting the festival economy and connecting visitors with Thailand's rich heritage.
The overarching theme for this edition is Angels & Mara, exploring the tension between guardians of light and forces of temptation. Drawing on religious, cultural, and philosophical traditions, the theme examines modern dualities such as hope and despair, spirituality and materialism, memory and forgetting, and desire and restraint. Derived from Bangkok's Thai name, Krung Thep (City of Angels), the concept offers visitors a deeper perspective of the capital while providing artists with a framework to reflect on contemporary societal transformations.
The programme features a growing roster of local and international artists and collectives working across painting, sculpture, photography, performance art, film, and multimedia, reinforcing BAB 2026 as a dynamic international platform for cross-cultural dialogue.

Exhibition venues will be distributed across temples, cultural institutions, educational spaces, and major landmarks throughout the city, connecting historical quarters and modern districts:
- Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) and Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha)
- Wat Prayoon (Temple of the Iron Fences)
- Museum Siam and Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC)
- One Bangkok, centralwOrld, and Siam Paragon
- National Museum Bangkok and Silpakorn University Art Centre
Staging an art biennale as a citywide experience represents a strategic shift toward creative tourism, seamlessly blending traditional cultural assets with modern artistic expressions. This approach successfully distributes economic benefits to riverside communities, historic districts, and local hospitality businesses, while enhancing the long-term value of Thailand's tourism sector in alignment with TAT's vision.
Building on the success of previous editions since 2018—which attracted over 3.5 million visitors and featured works by more than 300 artists globally, alongside a virtual venue reaching 2.3 million online viewers—BAB 2026 continues its collaboration with key cultural, government, and private partners, including Thai Beverage Public Company Limited as a major supporter.
