British pop star Ed Sheeran has apologised to fans for making mistakes as he kicked off a solo concert in Philadelphia, directly addressing the bitter controversy that has impacted his ongoing tour. The star responded to the intense fallout following rapper Macklemore being dropped from the tour due to making pro-Palestinian remarks on stage earlier in September.

The controversy led several supporting artists to quit the tour in solidarity, while ticket prices for the remaining United States leg dropped and sales declined significantly. However, Sheeran clarified that the decision to remove Macklemore was made by event promoters rather than himself, adding that his commitment to his fans drove his return to the live stage.
