Thailand's Election Commission has released an official resolution regarding Senator Thanakorn Thavornchinchot, who serves as a senator in Group 6, position number 7, following a thorough review of his candidate qualifications.
According to the official statement, the commission found that Thanakorn registered as a Senate candidate while fully aware that he was ineligible to run due to a prior final court judgment issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court.
The historical case was recorded under black case number 10664/2011 and red case number 10706/2011, dated December 17, 2011, involving charges of operating as a gambling house promoter under the Gambling Act of 1935 and its amendments.

This action constitutes a direct violation of Section 74, combined with Section 14 (12), of the Organic Act on the Acquisition of Senators B.E. 2561, which strictly outlines the prohibited characteristics for senate candidates.
This unanimous decision by the Election Commission highlights rigorous vetting procedures for high-ranking legislative positions in Thailand. The referral to the Constitutional Court marks a critical procedural step in determining ultimate legal accountability and maintaining institutional integrity.
Consequently, the Election Commission has resolved to forward the matter to the Constitutional Court to deliberate on his qualifications and prohibited traits under Section 63 of the Organic Act, while also ordering the return of any salary and benefits received during his tenure.
