- England to play a 50-over warm-up match against Western Australia XI at the Waca on 7 November.
- The fixture takes place six days before the opening ODI at Perth's Optus Stadium on 13 November.
- The move contrasts sharply with the widely criticised preparation schedule ahead of the previous Ashes series.
- England face at least 20 official ODIs before next year's World Cup in southern Africa.
England have scheduled a 50-over warm-up fixture against a Western Australia XI at the Waca in Perth ahead of their upcoming white-ball tour of Australia later this year. This marks a notable shift in policy, as the team has not played a white-ball warm-up match on a tour for six years.
Taking place on 7 November—six days prior to the first one-day international at Perth's Optus Stadium on 13 November—the fixture points to a much more focused preparation strategy. It stands in stark contrast to the heavily criticized itinerary arranged for last winter's Ashes series.
Ahead of that previous contest, England played only a single in-house warm-up match at the Lilac Hill club ground. The England and Wales Cricket Board stated at the time that the Waca was unavailable, but recent discussions between the ECB and Cricket Australia have established a reciprocal arrangement to ensure touring sides receive proper preparation.

Securing adequate warm-up matches ahead of major international tours is vital for adapting to foreign conditions. England's decision to reintroduce traditional fixtures highlights their need to address a lack of experienced personnel in the 50-over setup following recent transitions.
The touring squad features a relatively inexperienced 50-over lineup. With both Jos Buttler and Adil Rashid sidelined through injury, Joe Root was the sole player in England's starting XI for the third ODI against Sri Lanka with more than 50 international caps to his name, despite the team winning three consecutive series this year.
England's upcoming schedule includes three ODIs and five T20s in Australia from 13 November to 2 December, alongside a 50-over tri-series in Pakistan later this month. Further warm-up fixtures are also planned for Test tours of South Africa and Bangladesh, as well as a special 150th-anniversary Test against Australia in Melbourne next March.
