The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) has announced the successful 4-year performance of the Long-Term Resident Visa (LTR Visa) initiative, launched in September 2022. The program has successfully attracted high-potential and skilled foreign nationals from around the globe to reside and conduct economic activities in Thailand.
Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary-General of the BOI, revealed that a total of 12,010 applicants have been approved for the LTR visa, generating an estimated 43 billion baht in economic value. This figure encompasses visa fees, local expenditures, direct investments, and tax revenues, averaging more than 3.6 million baht per individual and boosting spending across housing, tourism, healthcare, food, and transport sectors.
The approved high-potential foreigners span five main categories: wealthy pensioners at 4,561, dependents at 3,891, highly-skilled professionals at 1,779, work-from-Thailand professionals at 1,043, and wealthy global citizens at 737. Every applicant is subject to rigorous qualification checks and background verifications.

Most approved individuals originate from major global economies, led by the United States with over 2,400, Japan with over 1,300, and the United Kingdom with over 1,000. Japanese nationals hold a strong share among highly skilled professionals, reflecting sustained international confidence in Thailand. Furthermore, 54% of professionals and remote workers hold executive positions, while 36% are specialized technical experts.
“Over the past four years, the performance of the LTR visa has demonstrated Thailand's potential to attract high-quality foreign talent from around the world to participate in the Thai economy in various ways.”

The promotion of the LTR Visa serves as a crucial strategic pillar in transforming Thailand's economy toward a technology- and innovation-driven future. Particularly as the nation prepares to support new waves of investment in advanced industries such as semiconductors, digital technologies, AI, and humanoid robotics, drawing global talent not only stimulates local circulation of capital but also facilitates long-term knowledge and technology transfer to the domestic workforce.
In September 2026, the BOI rolled out an upgraded online LTR visa application system to streamline request processing. The platform seamlessly links data and operational workflows across four government agencies: the Department of Consular Affairs, the Immigration Bureau, the Department of Employment, and the Revenue Department, complemented by the Thailand Investment and Expat Services Center (TIESC) at One Bangkok.
