At 10:30 AM on September 24, 2026, at the Thai parliament, House Speaker Sophon Sarum presided over a House of Representatives session where MP Korn Chatikavanij of the Democrat Party submitted a live verbal inquiry concerning former Deputy Finance Minister Vorapak Tanyawong.
The inquiry focused on reports that the United States government placed Vorapak on a list for investigation to determine if he meets the criteria for sanctions due to alleged ties with transnational scam syndicates. Korn also demanded a thorough review of the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) regulatory performance.

However, during the session, House Speaker Sophon announced to the meeting that Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas was engaged in urgent official duties and therefore requested to postpone his response to the inquiry in accordance with parliamentary regulations.
Despite the minister's absence, Korn was permitted by the chair to proceed with a discussion to leave his questions directly for the Finance Minister, emphasizing the necessity of Thailand's investigative processes regarding a former high-ranking official facing serious international crime allegations.
Live parliamentary inquiries serve as a vital mechanism for MPs to hold the executive branch accountable. When a responsible minister cannot attend in person, utilizing debate time to raise questions ensures public visibility and pressures relevant agencies to address critical allegations.
In addition to the transnational scam allegations, Korn pressed for an evaluation of whether the SEC has genuinely acted to crack down on illicit grey capital or if its regulations have inadvertently benefited certain financial stakeholders, a topic currently under intense public scrutiny.
